Borough Green man dies after crash on A227 Gravesend Road near Wrotham

A man who died after a crash on the A227 near Wrotham has been named locally as Tom Greening.

The 24-year-old, who was from Borough Green, was travelling in a car which collided with a lorry in Gravesend Road, shortly before 1pm yesterday.

He was taken to Darent Valley Hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.

Friends have taken to social media to pay their respects.

Lauren Riley, from Maidstone, added: "Rip Tom Greening, such a sad world."

A police car was near the vehicles at the time of the crash and because of this, the incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.

A spokesman said: "The incident was referred to us by Kent Police shortly after it took place. Our investigators deployed to the scene and began post-incident procedures.

"The investigation will be looking at the circumstances surrounding the involvement of Kent Police prior to the crash.

"Our thoughts are with the man’s family and all those affected."

The road was closed both ways between Fairseat Lane and Vigo Road until midnight, causing widespread disruption while officers paramedics and fire officers attended the scene.

The air ambulance also landed nearby.
