Sainsbury’s security guard from Angel Centre, Tonbridge, in hospital after alleged attack

A security guard was rushed to hospital after a suspected shoplifter reportedly hit him over the head with a glass bottle.

The doorman at Sainsbury’s in the Angel Centre in Tonbridge challenged a man at around 8.40pm, believing he was attempting to steal several bottles of spirits.

The suspect then allegedly used one of the bottles to repeatedly strike the victim around the head before running away.

The victim was bludgeoned with enough force it shattered the bottle and he was sent to the hospital with cuts to his head.

Police have now released a CCTV image that may help with their investigations.

DC Jo Slevin said: “The violence used against the victim was appalling; he was struck with such force that the bottle shattered.

“Whilst the CCTV image we have of this man shows little of his face, we are hopeful that someone may recognise his clothing, including a relatively distinctive top.”
