More than two kilograms of cannabis have been seized following a crackdown on anti-social behaviour in Snodland.

In total seven people were arrested as part of Operation Hobbit, which also targeted shoplifters.

So far five people have been charged following the arrests.

The Class B drug was seized from a Mazda MX6 in Brook Street on April 23 and two men were arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs with intent to supply.

Natasha Turner, of Willowside, is amongst the other defendants arrested.

On April 11 the 43-year-old was arrested and charged with three separate shoplifting offences, with one report coming from the Co-op in the town’s High Street.

William Richardson-Smith was also arrested and charged for stealing alcohol from the same store on April 22 and 23.

The 29-year-old, of no fixed abode, will appear at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ court on 22 May.

Police have issued a number of cautions and warnings to people for possession of cannabis.

PC John Fordham said: “We have seen significant falls in the number of reported shoplifting offences in the High Street in April compared to March and by cracking down on retail crime in Snodland we hope to also address other concerns.

“Operations such as these are really important in helping to get the message out there that we will continue to tackle all crime in Snodland to keep it a safe place to live and visit.”

Operation Hobbit is on-going and visible patrols have been increased in a bid to identify offenders and deter criminals travelling in from other areas.
