A man is due in court today charged with murdering a father-of-two from Strood after being extradited from Italy.

Edmund Nela is set to appear before magistrates in Brighton accused of killing scaffolder Xhem Krasniqi.

The 31-year-old arrived at Gatwick airport last night after being arrested in Milan last month. He was taken to a police station, where he was charged.

Nela, who is unemployed and of no fixed address, is charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder and possession of a pistol.

The charges follow the fatal shooting of Mr Krasniqi, in Hove, East Sussex, on Saturday, May 18.

He was shot in the abdomen and taken to hospital, but later died.

The Albanian national, from the Marlowe Park area of Strood, was in Brighton with his wife, their four-year-old daughter and son, seven, when trouble broke out at about 11.30pm.

Two men with Mr Krasniqi were unhurt despite being shot at. Police are treating those incidents as attempted murder.

The 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder after he flew into Gatwick airport on May 26. The woman, 32, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
