A celebration of local heroes is set to be back for the 21st time.

Building on the success of its 20th anniversary last year, which saw a record-breaking 194 entries, nominations are now open for the the Pride in Medway awards.

They recognise any person or business going the extra mile for charities or carers and sports coaches bringing joy to their communities.

You can nominate a local hero in the following categories: sports coach of the year, volunteer of the year, good carer, young heroes, green champion, charity fundraiser, community service, courage, and health and hospital champion.

Last year, more than 110 people attended a special gala evening held at MidKent College in Gillingham.

The awards, organised by marketing agency Pillory Barn, were supported by sponsors, including Dockside Property Services, mhs homes, Medway Council, the Medway Messenger, Bridgewood Manor Hotel and Spa, AC Goatham and Son and MidKent College.

Principal Simon Cook said Pride in Medway had fast become one of the highlights of the year for the college.

He added: "Our community here is full of extraordinary people doing extraordinary things to support each other and to make this a great place for us all.

"Pride in Medway is a fantastic opportunity to recognise the effort and achievement of those who give so much.

"I do hope that people take the time to nominate those who’ve made an impact on them personally, so that we can celebrate as many Medway stories this year as possible."

Pillory Barn managing director, Miranda Chapman, shared her joy that Pride in Medway is set to return for another year.

She said: "Each year we learn of new and more wonderful stories that really do touch everyone involved – but equally that makes the decision for the judges a lot harder

"Being involved with Pride in Medway has always been such a pleasure for Pillory Barn, and is something our team looks forward to each year right from the nomination process to the awards evening which is always such a fabulous night enjoyed by all.
