Boy, 14, in court on driving charges after police chase through Gillingham

A schoolboy is due in court after being charged with a string of driving offences.

It comes after police spotted a gang of teenagers near a white transit van in Trafalgar Street, Gillingham at 3.30am yesterday.

The vehicle drove off and police chased the van to nearby Windmill Road.

Damage was caused to the fence, and two boys were arrested.

The 14-year-old from Gillingham, who hasn't been named due to his age, was charged with aggravated vehicle taking and damage of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, careless driving, and driving without insurance or a licence.

A 16-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and possession of Class B drugs has been bailed pending further enquiries until April 18.

The 14-year-old will appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on March 14.
