Burglars Kyle Milsom from Strood and Luke Hatcher from Gillingham jailed for three years for burglary

Two burglars who were caught with screwdrivers, a torch, a mask and a host of stolen goods have been locked up.

Kyle Millsom and Luke Hatcher, both 24, were arrested after police stopped a suspicious vehicle during the early hours of one morning last month.

The pair, who are both from the Medway Towns, were stopped in a Ford Focus near Hermitage Lane, in Higham, after officers spotted the pair walking away from a home after the owner heard a loud bang.

No one had entered the property but there were tool marks and damage to the home’s front door.

Officers attended and searched the area, finding Kyle Millsom, 24, and Luke Hatcher, 24, sat in a Ford Focus near Hermitage Lane.

Inside the car was burglary equipment, a mobile phone and tablet, and a wallet with several bank cards.

A handbag containing a woman’s driving license was hidden underneath the vehicle. Officers visited the owner of the licence and confirmed she had been a victim of burglary.

Millsom, of Windmill Street in Strood, and Hatcher, of Fox Street in Gillingham, were charged with the offence and later admitted it in court.

Both men have now been jailed for three years each at Maidstone Crown Court.

Investigating officer DC Aaron Chapman, of the Medway Criminal Investigation department, said: “Millsom and Hatcher were out in the dead of night to steal from people’s homes.

“However, following a report of suspicious activity in the area we arrested both men before they had time to commit any further offences.

“Burglars become more active during the darker months, and use every opportunity and tool at their disposal to break-into people’s homes.

“Don’t make it easy for them; keep valuables out of sight, set an alarm, and double check all windows and doors are locked before leaving the house.”
