Snow flurry causes travel chaos for drivers in Borstal, Rochester as car hits lamppost

A car has hit a lamppost on a treacherous stretch of road with other vehicles becoming "stuck" following a sudden snow flurry.

The vehicle hit the post in Shorts Way, Borstal in Rochester this afternoon.

An image shows multiple cars in the middle of the road in snowy conditions.

It led to cars queuing in the lead up to the road's summit.

One person said: "Avoid Shorts Way. A car has just hit a lamppost – chaos already."

Another added: "Just come from Maidstone Road and all is very slippery.

"Cars are having problems getting up and down Shorts Way.

"We had to go down Manor Road and were sliding, and I have four-wheel drive, [so] don't go out if you don't have to - it will only get worse as more cars get stuck."

A third person commented: "I turned very, very slowly into Manor Lane and ended up slipping sideways and diagonally - very scary on hills up and down."

The conditions have been caused by a sudden snow flurry hitting the county today.

The Met Office has since issued a second yellow weather warning for ice which is in place until 3am tomorrow.
