Traffic now clear after a car overturned on the M2 near Strood

A car overturned on the M2 near Strood this morning.

The accident is said to have happened shortly before 7.30am on the London-bound carriageway for the A228 Strood and Rochester turn off.

It was initially thought a car and a lorry were involved in the crash, and the car ended up on its roof.

It is now understood no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The road was blocked and traffic was queuing back to Junction 3 for Chatham and the Taddington roundabout, for a time.

Police, ambulance crews, highways officials and firefighters were sent to the scene and police said the road was cleared before 10am.

The emergency services were called out at about 7.20am and firefighters said the car ended up on its roof on the hard shoulder and the road has had to be closed for a time.

The driver had managed to get himself out of the vehicle before crews arrived on the scene.

He is not seriously injured, but has been taken to hospital.

A spokesman for police, said: "Officers are in attendance with South East Coast Ambulance Service.

"A man was being treated for injuries described as minor and has been taken to a local hospital for further medical attention."
