The driver, a 37-year-old man from Rochester, was arrested on suspicion of driving whist over the legal alcohol limit.

He was also assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital but the extent of his injuries is unknown.

Firefighters were also called as precaution as smoke could be seen coming from the car. The crew from Strood station administered first aid, made the scene safe and checked the structural integrity of the building.

The man has now been bailed until November 5, pending further enquiries.
