Chatham Town manager Paul Foley admits being relegated to the Safety Net Kent League is a distinct possibility but still believes his squad can escape the drop.

Town were overhauled by Corinthian Casuals in the table on Tuesday after the Surrey side beat Chipstead 2-0 in Ryman League Division 1 South.

Chatham are now nine games without a win, earning just three points in that time and are fresh from a 6-1 mauling at home to Whitehawk last Saturday.

Foley (pictured) said: "I fully expected Corinthian to win and knew we would have a tough game on Saturday against Whitehawk so there have been no surprises to find ourselves where we are really."

Chats have the chance to make an immediate return above the safety line when they face rock-bottom Horsham YMCA, who will be relegated if they fail to win at Maidstone Road on Saturday.

Foley said his squad were determined not to join the Sussex outfit in playing at a lower level next season – despite the annual confusion over promotion and relegation issues caused by off-field finance and ground regulations.

He said: "Getting relegated to the Kent League is a distinct possibility regardless of whatever else is going on off the pitch elsewhere – but we are not going to be relying on matters beyond our control."

Anthony Hogg is available after his facial injury for the visit of Horsham.
