Medway's civic leaders officially appointed

Conservative councillor Stuart Tranter has been appointed as the new Mayor of Medway.

Cllr Tranter, who was elected to the Rochester West ward last year, was officially appointed at the annual council meeting on Wednesday.

Gloria Opara (Con), councillor for Princes Park ward, was appointed deputy mayoress.

They will take over from the outgoing mayor, Cllr Barry Kemp, who completes two years in office, and his deputy, Cllr Steve Iles.

Cllr Tranter has previously spoken of using his business background to sell Medway to investors by hosting events to bring together business people, and will support Christians Against Poverty, which helps people in financial difficulty.
