After heavy snowfall settled in Medway, the council have said they're trying to keep essential services running and Medway moving.
Gritting crews have been working overnight to cover the main routes in the Towns, and winter service staff have been trying to limit further disruption.
Waste collection services have been suspended due to the dangerous footpaths, and like many other services were fully off yesterday.
Medway's libraries, leisure centres, community hubs, archives centre and visitor information centre all closed at midday on Tuesday as conditions worsed.
Kingsley House in Balmoral Road, Gillingham, was open as normal on Tuesday morning, providing help and care to those most vulerable, including rough sleepers.
Medway Council has urged its residents to dress appropriately for the weather and heat homes to at least 18°C.
During the extreme cold, the people of Medway are also asked to look out for the elderly and vulnerable, and make use of the NHS 111 service for urgent medical concerns if you're worried about a friend or family member.
Cllr Phil Filmer, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Front Line Services, said: “Thank you to all the staff who worked through the night to help keep Medway moving. Gritting salt continues to be spread on our main routes to help prevent ice from forming and teams of staff are refilling the hundreds of residential salt bins across Medway.
“I’d also like to thank our snow wardens who have volunteered their time in communities across Medway to help keep footpaths as clear as possible.
"Thank you also to residents and motorists for your patience during this period of extreme weather conditions.
"More snow and severe weather is forecast over the next few days and we will continue to do all we can to keep Medway’s roads open, as well as provide support to our most vulnerable residents.”
