Delays continue on Wainscott Bypass due to ongoing roadworks

Drivers are continuing to face delays approaching Medway from the Wainscott Bypass due to ongoing roadworks.

Tailbacks have been caused on the A289 approaching the junction with Berwick Way, where a lane is expected to remain closed for works until Friday next week.

Michael Edwards, Medway Council’s Head of Transport and Parking, said: “The delays are due to a lane closure on Berwick Way, which is in place to protect our contractor as they carry out preparation works for upgrades to the street lighting and signalised pedestrian crossing. This is an important part of the construction works for the new slip road on Medway City Estate, and the lane closure is due to open on Friday, February 18. We apologise for any inconvenience the works may cause and we would like to thank motorists for their patience whilst the works take place.”

On Monday drivers faced delays of two hours, as further road traffic incidents combined to exacerbate the problem.

One lane was closed on the Wainscott Bypass after a breakdown, before a two car crash in the Medway tunnel contributed to delays.

There were no reports of injuries.
