Driver, Saroop Singh, 31, of King Street, Rochester, charged after cyclist hurt in Delce Road

A motorist has been charged with failing to stop after a teenager was seriously injured in a crash in Rochester.

Saroop Singh, 31, was arrested after the 16-year-old cyclist was knocked down by a blue Ford Fiesta in Delce Road, on Monday, November 21, last year.

The accident happened at about 8.40pm and the teenager, who has not been named, suffered severe head injuries.

Police closed the road for several hours while investigators carried out their inquiries and the 16-year-old rider was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, in Gillingham.

Officers found the Fiesta nearby shortly after, and launched a hunt to find the driver.

The next day they arrested Singh, of King Street, Rochester, on suspicion of dangerous driving.

He was later bailed pending further inquiries and has now been charged by officers.

Singh has been bailed to appear before Medway magistrates on Tuesday, February 28.
