Strood: Bus driver saves school children

A driver saved children from a blaze on board a school bus this afternoon.

The driver managed to evacuate the bus and put out the flames after its engine caught fire in Brompton Farm Road, Strood.

Firefighters were called to the scene at around 3.45pm to find the fire had been put out by the driver with a fire extinguisher.

It is believed to have started due to the engine overheating.

Strood fire crew manager said: "The bus driver had got all the children off of the bus when we arrived.

"The flames didn't get into the passenger area and thankfully there were no injuries."
