Police investigating a reported attempted robbery and sexual assault near Heron Way, Chatham, release e-fit in search for fresh information

An e-fit image has been released in the hope it will trigger somebody's memory after a reported attempted robbery and sexual assault.

Officers are still looking for information after a report that at about 4pm on Thursday, April 9, a 17-year-old girl was walking along a footpath that runs parallel to Heron Way and Princes Avenue in Chatham, when she saw a man in the distance.

As she approached him, he turned towards her and asked if she had any money. When the victim told him she did not have any, he raised his voice, telling her to get on her knees and empty her handbag.

As she did so, the man began rifling through the victim’s purse but did not take anything.

He then instructed the girl to stand up. He then sexually assaulted her and ran off.

Officers have been investigating and a 33-year-old man from Chatham was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and was been bailed to July 17 pending further inquiries.

But today police released an e-fit image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

He is described as a white man, aged between 35 and 45, about 6ft tall with dark bushy eyebrows, long lips and grey stubble. He was also wearing a green beany hat.
