A faulty appliance may have been the cause of a fire in a home in Ellison Way, Rainham, during the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters from Medway fire station were called out to the house at about 1am after the family who live there were alerted to the fire by their smoke alarm.

By the time the crew arrived, the two adults and child were out of the property.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: “A small fire had broken out in the kitchen of the home, but the rest of the property was smoked logged.

"We were at the scene for about an hour and the cause of the fire may have been a faulty appliance in the kitchen."
