Firefighters called to suspicious car fire on Holmside, Watling Street, Gillingham.

A car is believed to have been deliberately set on fire in Gillingham last night.

Firefighters were called to Holmside just off Watling Street shortly after 1am.

The mother and brother of the car's owner said they think the car was intentionally set on fire.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 1.24am to reports of a car alight in Gillingham.

"Officers and KFRS are working to establish the cause of the fire, which is being treated as suspicious at this time."

Firefighters were also called to rescue a woman from a crashed car in Chatham yesterday evening.

Two fire engines, police and paramedics attended the scene in Herman Terrace at 7.40pm.

The roof of the car had to be removed with hydraulic rescue equipment so the trapped woman could be released.
