Former Rochester pupil wins top theatre award

Former Rochester pupil Sam Hall was among the winners at last night's Olivier Awards.

Sam left King's School in 2013 and has since gone on to become the children's musical director and "rock coach" in the West End show School of Rock - which scooped the Outstanding Achievement in Music award in a ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall.

Sam has been part of the team who found and trained three sets of 13 child actors who play instruments live for the show every night at New London Theatre.

It's an even more impressive achievement considering Sam is still a student at the Royal College of Music and as well as his theatre commitments, is also the lead singer for indie-rock band TORVA.

While at King’s Rochester, Sam played the lead role in Sweeney Todd, ran open mic nights and assisted with every school music event.

He returned to King's to play bass guitar in the school’s own production of Into the Woods last month.
