Young man detained under Mental Health Act after Gillingham street 'stabbing'

A man in his 20s has been detained under the Mental Health Act after reports of a stabbing in Gillingham this morning.

Police were called to Watling Street at shortly after 11am after the man was hurt.

Officers cordoned off the area, including an alleyway at Malvern Road.

The Kent Air Ambulance is believed to have landed on a school field nearby to treat the man.

He is not thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

A Kent Police spokesman confirmed a man in his 20s has been detained under the Mental Health Act.
