Kind-hearted people touched by the plight of a vulnerable man who was mugged of his wallet and phone have helped raise more than £2,400.

As exclusively revealed earlier this week, Bradley Hannan, who weighs just six stone, was viciously attacked while waiting for a bus in Chatham on Wednesday.

Mr Hannan was punched in the head and had his wallet and mobile phone stolen by a thug.

He had been waiting for a bus near the May Moon Chinese takeaway at about 3.30pm when he was dragged into an alley by the attacker.

Mr Hannan, 29, who lives in Chatham, has previously battled three brain tumours.

He had been volunteering at Medway Maritime Hospital and was making his way home when he was attacked.

His sister Daniela Golding highlighted what happened to him on social networking site, Facebook.

She said: “I am heartbroken because he would not hurt a fly so how anyone can harm him makes me feel sick, he’s been through so much and doesn’t deserve it, to the lowlife who did this you might think your stronger but he’s the strongest person I know and I hope karma gets you bad.”

After the story broke, kind-hearted Alison Fowler, 28, decided to set up a fundraising page to raise enough money to replace what he had stolen out of his wallet as she was so upset about what had happened to him.

Mrs Fowler, of Tonge Road, Murston, immediately sprang into action and set up the Go Fund Me page.

Mrs Fowler, said: “It is just awful what has happened to him, I was so upset to read about it and my sister has a disability so felt so much for him.

She had initially hoped to raise enough money to replace what was stolen out of his wallet and maybe buy himself a treat, however, she’s been gobsmacked at the response.

In less than 23 hours 187 people have raised a massive more than £2,400 for him.

This morning, Mrs Fowler, said: “I can’t believe how well its gone.

The support has been amazing and the messages I’ve had from his family say the mugging has knocked him for six, so I am hoping this will help boost his morale and help him in life.

There is enough money there now for him to perhaps do something in life he’s always wanted to.

“It’s been brilliant, the support, I can’t thank everyone enough, it’s been overwhelming.”

Staff at the Tesco Extra store in Gillingham have also said they want to replace Mr Hannan’s phone for him or give him some cash to replace the one he had if they don’t stock it.

And a members of the Kent Broken Bikers Charity Club will be meeting on Sunday afternoon and riding to his home to offer their support.

This morning, Mrs Golding, said: “Bradley can’t believe what’s happened since - none of us can. It’s overwhelming.

“He is still a bit bruised and doesn’t want to go out but my twin sister gave birth yesterday, and he came to the hospital to see his niece.

“That put a smile back on his face.”

Police are investigating the mugging and have issued a description of Mr Hannan’s attacker.

A spokeswoman added: “Kent Police is investigating an alleged robbery in Luton Road, Chatham, just after 3.30pm on Wednesday, November 18.

“It is reported that a 29-year-old man was assaulted in an alleyway and his mobile telephone and wallet were stolen.

“The suspect, who reportedly ran away towards Constitution Road, is described as a man with tanned skin, aged between 20 and 30, of medium build, around 5ft 6in and with short black hair.

“He was described as wearing a black jacket and dark blue jeans.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
