Gillingham band Maker, who have supported Ocean Colour Scene and Pete Doherty, release debut EP

They sound like they’ve been around since 1972 but Gillingham band Maker are set to release their debut EP.

A four piece rock ‘n’ roll band with a “psychedelic bluesy punch, stirred with a fist full of soul”, Maker would be the first to admit they’ve had guitar leads plugged firmly into the 1960s and 70s ever since they started, way back in... er.. 2009.

But then so have a lot of other pub rock bands.

The difference with Maker is they’ve also got their own style, their riffs are original and their sound oozes years of dedication to their craft.

As their PR says: “Coming on like the love child of The Rolling Stones, The Faces, Free, T-Rex and Primal Scream, Maker deliver a fresh sonic swagger defined by their own bluesy, boozy guitar riffs”, or as review music website louderthanwar.com puts it – they’re “pure blues-oriented rock‘n’roll gold”.

Such plaudits haven’t come from nowhere. Eight years on the road have seen Maker win support slots for Ocean Colour Scene and Pete Doherty, and share festival bills and main stages with the likes of Dizzee Rascal, The Cribs, Mark Ronson and Supergrass.

They’ve had a few near misses with big success in their career so far, but as new manager Jay Forden says, things have started happening for Maker since they signed to his label Kidda Records.

In January the band played to a sold-out crowd at Rebellion Manchester supporting The Slydigs, who have recently returned from touring America and Europe with The Who – and their EP Move Your Feet will be released tomorrow (Friday).

Maker are Alessandro Marinelli (vocals), Andrew Donaldson (guitar), Gavin Donaldson (drums) and John Austin (bass).
