Gillingham car theft suspect found by police in Welling as Croydon man appears in court

A man suspected of stealing a car after reportedly stealing keys during a burglary has appeared in court.

Police were called to reports of a break-in during which car keys were taken from a property in Cornwallis Avenue, Gillingham in the early hours of yesterday.

A car was reported to have been taken from outside the address and a handbag was said to be missing from inside another vehicle.

The stolen vehicle was located and stopped at 11am the same day by police in Welling.

Karl Whyte from Croydon was arrested and charged with burglary, theft from a motor vehicle, taking a motor vehicle without consent, failing to provide a urine sample, failing to provide a drug testing sample and driving without insurance and a licence.

The 37-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at Medway Magistrates' Court on Thursday, October 17.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday, November 11.
