Anthony Charles, 47, of James, Street, Gillingham, charged over assault and machete after Mill Road incident

A man has been charged after an assault and for allegedly having a machete.

Anthony Charles, was charged yesterday, Wednesday, with one count of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was also charged with one count of possession of an offensive weapon, a machete, in a public place.

These relate to a reported assault in Mill Road, Gillingham on Sunday, February 12.

A 28-year-old man suffered injuries to his head and body which needed hospital treatment.

Two other men and two women arrested in connection with the incident were released without charge.

Charles, 47, of James Street, Gillingham, appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 23 March and was remanded in custody.

He will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on April 19.
