Man charged with attempted murder in Rochester

A man is facing an attempted murder charge following an incident in Rochester.

Christopher Connolly, of Chelmar Road, Chatham, has been charged with one count of attempted murder.

The 28-year-old was also charged with one count of unlawfully and maliciously administering a poison to a woman so as to endanger her life or inflict grievous bodily harm.

The charges relate to an incident on Thursday, January 3 in Rochester where a woman known to Connolly was reported to have been poisoned with prescription medicine.

Mr Connolly appeared before Medway Magistrates' Court on Saturday 5 and was remanded in custody to appear before Maidstone Crown Court on February 1.

In court the victim was named as Denise Smith and it was said Connolly allegedly gave her a mixture of prescribed medication.
