Police reopen Wood Street, Brompton after man found lying in road

Police have now reopened a major road in Brompton after a man was found lying in the street.

The emergency services were called out to Wood Street shortly before 8.15am after reports a cyclist was seen in the road and may have either been hit by a car, or suffered some sort of medical incident.

Police closed the road at its junction with Dock Road shortly afterward and paramedics were called out to treat the man.

Nearby Middle Street was also closed due to the incident at about 8.45am and police paramedics and firefighters were on the scene for hours.

Police were diverting traffic back down to Dock Road this morning as they dealt with the incident, but it is understood the road had now been fully reopened.

A spokesman for Kent Police said officers were called out at 8.13am to reports a man had been seen lying on the road.

The incident was between the roundabout on Dock Road and Brompton Barracks.

A spokesman for police said: "Kent Police was called at 8.13am to a report of an incident, in Wood Street, Chatham."
