Air ambulance called after a teenager hit by car near Gillingham Asda

A teenager was hit by a car outside a supermarket yesterday afternoon.

The crash happened just before 6pm on the A289 Barrack Road at B2004 Gillingham Gate Road near Asda and Medway Police Station.

Eye witnesses said a 14-year-old boy was lying in the road being treated by paramedics - the air ambulance landed nearby.

Four police cars and an ambulance were also called to the scene and the road was closed towards the Medway Tunnel.

Officers taped off one of the crossings near the injured boy.

He was taken to hospital by road but he is not thought to be seriously injured.

The crash is causing long delays in the area.
