M2 shuts after vehicle fire between A228 and A2 in Strood

Part of a busy motorway was closed for several hours due to a vehicle fire.

Traffic was queueing from Junction 2 of the A228, Sundridge Hill, to Junction 1 of the A2 at Strood while crews dealt with the incident on the London-bound M2.

Traffic was released at about 9am, but two lanes remained closed for recovery and clear-up.

The road had fully reopened by 11.30am and traffic has since returned to normal.

Police, fire and ambulance services have been contacted for more information.
