Warning from firefighters in Medway after four incidents

Firefighters in Medway are warning that nuisance fires could put lives at risk.

It follows a spate of small fires in Medway last night.

Firefighters were first called to Castlemaine Avenue, Gillingham at 7pm to tackle bushes alight.

Then one hour later they were called to Maple Avenue, Gillingham, following reports of a grass fire.

Half an hour after they were back in Castlemaine Avenue to extinguish a campfire in a public park.

Their final call was at 9.50pm when they attended a grass fire in Lines Terrace, Chatham.

The two grass fires and bush fire are being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: “Anytime we are at jobs like these it can stop a fire engine from being somewhere it is really needed.”

Kent Police has been informed.
