Shoppers and commuters pulling up at two Rochester car parks will be able to use their mobile phone to pay for their parking as part of a trial scheme.

PayByPhone is a quick and secure way to pay for parking taking away the need to find the correct change for a pay and display machine. The fee is instead charged to your credit or debit card.

Users can opt for texts to alert them that their parking time is running out, giving them the chance to top up their stay or return to their vehicle,

Blue Boar Lane and Corporation Street car parks have been selected for the pilot between Tuesday ,October 1 until Tuesday, December 31.

If successful, the payment system will be rolled out to other car parks across Medway. It will be available alongside the existing payment options.

Cllr Phil Filmer, who is in charge of customer services, said: “If drivers prefer to use the pay and display machines that is fine, but this will offer a hassle-free alternative. It will be particularly useful for those without change.”

To use the service, drivers will need to register their vehicle and payment card details.

There will be five ways to make parking payments using the www.paybyphone.co.ukPayByPhone service:

  • Mobile web m.paybyphone.co.uk
