Gravestones were damaged during a police chase in Gillingham last night.

Soon after 11pm a blue Peugeot 307 failed to stop for officers in the town.

Following a short pursuit, the vehicle came to a stop in the churchyard at St Mary Magdalene Church in Gillingham Green, colliding with some gravestones.

An 18-year-old from Gillingham has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and remains in police custody.

A spokesman for Kent Police said enquiries are ongoing.
