A Catholic primary school has been rated “outstanding” for the first time.
St Michael's RC Primary School and Nursery, in Chatham, was awarded the rating after its Catholic School Inspection in December.
Inspectors found the school, in Hills Terrace, provides a “calm purposeful environment which promotes progress in learning”.
It also caters for the needs of both staff and pupils and provides opportunities for “prayer and reflection”.
Teachers are confident with the subject knowledge and use appropriate religious education language tailored to the age and stage of the pupils.
During the inspection, a member of staff said: “We really are one big family because we really are a family of God, who worries and cares about everyone.”
The report did state the school needs to extend opportunities to explore other faiths and develop governors’ understanding of and contribution to the Catholic school’s evaluation process.
It teaches pupils from three to 11 and was last rated “good” in 2019.
