Chatham sex attack accused charged with more assaults in Whitstable and Gillingham

A man charged with a string of attacks on women in the Gillingham area is now facing further allegations after being charged with more offences.

The man, who is 42 and from Chatham but cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Medway Magistrates this afternoon charged with carrying out three sexual assaults in Whitstable which are alleged to have happened on August 12.

Two of the offences were alleged to have taken place in Stream Walk and the third in All Saints Close in the seaside town. He was charged with these offences on January 12, but details have only just emerged.

While in court this afternoon he was also charged with five further offences; three sexual assaults, one count of robbery and one charge of indecent exposure.

One sexual assault, the robbery and the indecent exposure are said to have happened in Junction Road, Gillingham, on March 3, last year.

The two other sexual assaults are said to have happened in Riverside Country Park, in Lower Rainham Road, on June 28.

Prior to this, the man, who is currently on remand, was charged on December 22, with a robbery in Lordswood Lane, Chatham, which is said to have happened on November 1 and another robbery in Woodlands Road, Gillingham, on August 12.

He was also charged the same day with a theft and a sexual assault, both in Whitstable, on January 27 last year, as well as another robbery in Nelson Road, Gillingham, on January 13, last year.

Previously, the man was charged on November 16, with one count of sexual assault in connection with an incident in Copperhouse Lane, Rainham, on August 12.

He was also charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of robbery in connection with an incident in Berengrave Lane, Rainham, at 1.25pm on October 27.

Additionally, he had also been charged with two counts of assault in connection with an incident in Riverside Country Park, Gillingham, on October 9, and an incident in Gillingham Park, Gillingham, on October 13.

After today’s court appearance, he was again remanded in custody and will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court, on Friday, February 13.

The man cannot be named because of a court order banning the press from identifying him.
