Football is coming home, say smokers at Chatham Bus Station

Smokers at Chatham bus station think football is coming home as they vote for England to beat Sweden.

The first ever ballot box has been put up at the public transport hub to reduce littering.

After finishing their cigarette people can vote in ballots on topical questions.

With the quarter finals looming the only thing on people's minds is if England will make it through to the semis.

Overwhelmingly, people voted for England to win, with just three cigarette butts in the Sweden basket.

The polling system is the newest effort by the council to clean up the Towns' streets.

Cllr Phil Filmer, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Frontline Services, said: “The new ballot bin is great, fun way to engage members of the public, but it is only the start of our project.

"We are introducing a range of initiatives to reduce littering and encourage smokers to dispose of their cigarette butts responsibly. We are committed to keeping Medway clean and tidy."

Soon more bins will pop up, including on-the-go recycling bins, and gumdrop bins for chewing gum disposal.
