Steven Majewski arrested for wasting police time after armed officers cordoned off Canal Road in Strood

A man has been charged with wasting police time after a four hour stand-off involving armed police.

Steven Majewski was arrested on Sunday at around 11pm.

Police were initially called out to Canal Road, Strood, at 6.20pm over concerns for the welfare of a man who was in a boat.

For almost five hours the road was closed until Majewski , 39, was eventually brought onto land and detained by officers.

Speculation on social media that the incident involved a hostage was dismissed by police.
