Andrenaline seekers are being invited to take part in a thrilling abseil challenge to support the Medway Messenger's Charity of the Year.

Participants at the event at Miller House, Maidstone, can raise money for CLIC Sargent.

Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team, organisers of the event, urged people to take part.

"This is a thrilling way to raise money for such a good cause," he said. "The rooftop location gives superb views of the county town as an added perk for participants."

Two ropes will be fixed to the roof of the building, enabling brave participants to abseil 200ft down the side.

The abseil is on March 25 - just days after Chatham dad Matt Loughrey sets off on an epic bike ride across America for CLIC Sargent. Matt, who will be cycling coast to coast in just 21 days, is raising money in memory of his daughter Emily who died of cancer aged 22.

Those taking part in the charity abseil last year included kmfm's Medway breakfast presenter Mike Russell and the Medway Messenger's chief reporter Jenni Horn.

Jenni admitted it was a nerve-racking experience. "My knees were knocking as I made that first brave step over the edge of the Fremlin Walk building in Maidstone and my heart skipped a beat when I looked down and saw how small everyone looked below," she said.

"But dropping 100ft down the side of a shopping centre in the middle of a busy town centre was exhilarating. I will never forget the feeling."
