Three people had to be rescued after their boat broke down on the River Medway.

Thames Coastguard received the 999 call from a 20ft motor cruiser, Chardonnay, at 11.52am yesterday.

Medway Coastguard Rescue Team and the Sheerness RNLI Inshore Lifeboat were tasked to locate the vessel.

It was found near Darnet Ness in Pinup Reach. Those on board the boat, which had run aground, had to wait until the tide changed before being towed into Gillingham Marina.

They were returned to shore around 5pm.
