Three men in custody after bike is reported stolen in Chatham

Three men suspected of stealing a motorbike in the centre of Chatham, are still in police custody.

The trio were arrested after the bike was allegedly stolen in Dock Road, shortly before 2pm yesterday (Monday).

It was initially thought a mugging had taken place in the road, but police later confirmed the incident was not a robbery.

Witnesses said they saw several police cars at 1.47pm when the trio were arrested.

The three who were held in custody overnight were two men, both 27, from Chatham and a Rochester man, 30.

The Rochester man, is also suspected of assault and assault on a police officer.

A spokesman for police in Medway confirmed three were still being questioned at the police station.
