Two lanes of the M2 closed between junctions three for Chatham and four for Gillingham, coastbound after a car caught fire

Part of the M2 was closed last night after a car caught fire.

Two lanes were shut between junctions three and four on the coast bound carriageway.

Fire crews from Medway station were called to the scene at 6.30pm.

A spokesman said: "The driver had noticed smoke coming from the bonnet and pulled over on the hardshoulder."

No one is believed to have been injured in the incident.

A police spokesman said: "It was reported a blue Rover 75 was on fire in the outside lane of the coastbound carriageway between junction three and junction four.

"Traffic was stopped at junction 3 and the carriageway was cleared before 8pm."
