They warned drivers to be aware of delays after the A229 Blue Bell Hill junction.

At 5.25pm, they reported an overturned vehicle was partially blocking the carriageway.

All emergency services were at the scene awaiting recovery of the vehicle.

Debris would then have to be cleared from all lanes and traffic would be held until that was done.

Disruption was expected until approximately 7pm and traffic was already tailing back to Junction 3 at 5.45pm.

Highways England said at 5.35pm all but one lane was open and traffic was beginning to clear.

Drivers were asked to avoid the M2, J3 towards J2.
