Woman in her 80s hit by car in Gillingham

A pedestrian in her 80s has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car.

The crash happened just after 2pm in Dock Road, Chatham, near the junction with Wood Street.

The woman suffered a suspected fracture to her leg and traffic backed up while the area was cordoned off.

Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and she was conscious throughout a trip to hospital, an ambulance service spokesman said.

The spokesman added: "We sent two cars and an ambulance to the scene. The woman, who was aged in her 80s and suffered injuries including to her lower leg, was taken as a priority to Medway Maritime Hospital."
