Head coach Ady Pennock begins his rebuilding job at Gillingham as the club release eight.

Gillingham have offered a new deal to striker Cody McDonald but have released eight others.

They have also transfer listed goalkeeper Stuart Nelson and midfielder Billy Knott.

Senior player to have been released are Ryan Jackson, Chris Herd, Zesh Rehman, Emmanuel Osadebe, Ollie Muldoon and suspended striker Rory Donnelly.

Young pros Henry Newcombe and Mitchell Dickenson are also leaving.

Along with McDonald, the club have offered deals to Elliott List, Greg Cundle and forward Josh Parker.

McDonald has been a regular goalscorer for the Gills throughout his time at the club. He netted 12 last season in what was a difficult one for the club.

Goalkeeper Nelson has been listed as he isn’t guaranteed a start next season, with big Czech keeper Tomas Holy vying for the no.1 spot.

Knott spent the second half of last season on loan with Lincoln City, where he helped them to the National League title. He is another who won't be guaranteed a first-team place with the Gills.
