Kevin Watson’s search for new players is continuing ahead of Chatham's trip to struggling Burnham Ramblers on Saturday.

Watson admitted his team "weren't good enough" against Tilbury on Tuesday night, when a second-half strike by Jack West sunk the Chats 1-0 at Maidstone Road.

"We lacked a little bit of desire compared to them," Watson said. "There’s only so long you can give people, only so many chances. I’m looking to bring some fresh personnel in. I’m speaking to players and may have two in by Saturday.

"We’ve just got to regroup and get on with it. The way the table lies, we’re still not far away, but we’ve got some tough fixtures coming up."

With many Ryman League Division 1 North clubs in FA Cup action on Saturday, Chatham's trip to third-bottom Burnham is one of just three league fixtures.

Watson said: "Other teams will have games in hand (after Saturday), so we need to get a foothold and make sure those teams have to win their games in hand.

"We are quite far away in terms of points and where we need to be at this stage of the season, regarding the targets we set ourselves.

"But it’s still relatively early in the season, so we can bounce back."

Lawrence Collins could be fit on Saturday, having been due to return to training last night (Thursday) and Jamie Taylor has recovered from his groin injury, although Lewis Knight is still away.
