Bradley Dack scored Gillingham’s goal on Saturday but it was scant consolation for the midfielder.

He got the vital touch on Cody McDonald’s second-half strike to halve Crewe’s two-goal advantage.

It proved to be Gillingham’s only goal as they lost the League 1 match 3-1.

“It was my goal,” said Dack, ending any debate as to who was claiming it.

“Cody smashed it across the front and I just managed to get a foot on it before their defender, who was on the line.

“It was nice to get the goal but it would have been much better to get three points.”

It was Gillingham’s third straight defeat under the caretaker management team but Dack feels the team have been unlucky.

“It is deflating for the whole squad and after the game we were all gutted,” he said.

“We lost and probably undeservedly lost. Again we played well but that’s the way it is going.

“We matched them in the first 20-25 minutes before the first goal and it looked as though we were going to score. We had a couple of chances but that is the way it is going at the moment.

“We will come out of this because we have a strong group of lads, especially with Steve, Daz, Patto and Hessy working as they are.

“We now have a bit of a rest, with no midweek game, and maybe we can work on a few things and go again against Coventry.”
