Gillingham midfielder Bradley Dack is not yet fully fit admits boss Justin Edinburgh

Bradley Dack stayed put on deadline day and Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh admits he is still some way off full fitness.

Dack made his first league start since the opening day of the season on Sunday, after recovering from a knee injury.

A stunning free-kick by Dack put the Gills ahead and Edinburgh is looking forward to getting the midfielder back up to full speed.

Edinburgh, who wasn’t aware of any fresh bids as the transfer window closed, said: “I am absolutely delighted he is staying.

“He is not 100% fit and that is a challenge for us. When you have someone of his quality at your disposal, not 100% fit, probably 70%, you tend to take a gamble and try.

“Hopefully with no midweek games it might give us a chance to get him up to full fitness and get him back to firing on all fronts.

“We are all aware that he is not quite up to full speed but that goal showed what qualities he has.”

Edinburgh did manage to sign Bournemouth defender Baily Cargill on loan before the deadline but he won’t be ready yet, as he looks to get fit. The 21-year-old has not played a senior game this season.
