Invicta Dynamos will be keen to avenge their cup defeat against the Oxford City Stars when they head west on Sunday.

The Mos have had the upper-hand against the Stars on home ice, beating them three times this season, but haven’t forgotten the Southern Cup game in Oxford where they let victory slip from their grasp.

The Dynamos were 5-3 up against the Stars when they last met in Oxford before the home side fought back in the third period to win 8-6.

Coach Karl Lennon said: “We were quite comfortable but we didn’t manage the game well, they scored a flurry of late goals.

“We were devastated by that one, one of our worst performances. We want to avenge that loss when we go there on Sunday.

“They have had a string of good results, they had a four-point weekend last week and they had a win again on Sunday. They will be on a high and it will be up to us to upset that run for them and put ourselves back into a consistent run of form leading into the last few games of the season.

“With just six left now it’s the business end - every result counts now.”

The Mos need a run of results to put them back in with a chance of taking third place in NIHL South Division 1 - losing the initiative after defeat to Slough Jets last Saturday.

“It is still a possibility for us, but it is in their hands now,” said Lennon.

“We have to do what we can do, focus on the games and keep winning where we can.”

The Mos have just the one game this weekend, at Oxford. They aren’t back on home ice until Sunday, February 26 when they welcome Chelmsford Chieftains back to Gillingham.

It will be their last meeting before the Southern Cup Final. The Mos beat the Chiefs 6-3 last time out at Planet Ice in front of a fervent crowd.

With the rink now fully open, the visit of their Essex opponents helped make for a top atmosphere on Sunday.

“The atmosphere was just insane,” said the coach. “I can’t imagine what it will be like in the Final, a real great experience, especially for the boys on our team. A lot of them are either young guys in their first full season for us or they are guys from other teams and they haven’t really experienced a night like that with us.”
