Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh insists his team won’t be getting carried away following their perfect weekend.

The Gills are back in training preparing for a Capital One Cup clash at Plymouth on Tuesday night.

Edinburgh has to keep a lid on expectations after his side brushed aside League 1 title favourties Sheffield United on Saturday.

“It is about stability,” stressed Edinburgh. “We certainly aren’t going to get carried away.

“It was one performance but it was a very good performance. It gives us something to build on.

“There will be some bumpy moments with this young group there is no doubt about that. I am prepared for that and the fans need to make sure they are because I very much doubt if there was a younger starting XI anywhere in the four divisions.

“That is testament to that young group of players but we have to make sure we are careful with them.

“We have to be sensible with it. It was a fantastic performance and a great result. It is a foundation and a platform for us to go and build on.”

Edinburgh was keeping his cool following Saturday’s victory but he admitted it doesn’t get much better.

He said: “In terms of what was spoken before the game and who was coming to town, then I think it was a perfect performance and result for us at home.

“I don’t think they come much better than that, do they?

“You have to enjoy the good times because you always know there are some bad ones around the corner.

“My job is to regroup, get the heads back and focused ready for Tuesday night.”
