Gillingham goalkeeper Joe Walsh has been called up for an England under-16 training camp

Gillingham youth keeper Joe Walsh has been called up to the England under-16 squad.

The 15-year-old will be embarking on a 10-day training camp at St George’s Park next month.

Walsh has been with the Gills since the age of 11 and will be starting a two-year scholarship at the club next summer.

Schoolboys development manager Bryan Bull, speaking to the club’s website, said: “I am delighted for Joe who has worked so hard since he joined us as an 11-year-old.

“e is not only a talented young man but also a personable and likeable individual who all at the academy are absolutely delighted for.

“Great credit must also go to lead academy goalkeeper coach Spencer Creedon and the other staff who have worked with him over the last few years. It caps off what has been a tremendous few days for the academy.”

Earlier this week the Gills announced that Jack Tucker, Ryan Huckle and Henry Woods had all agreed pro terms with the club, from next season.
