Justin Edinburgh made his ninth summer signing on Friday and hasn’t ruled out adding more.

The Gills boss strengthened his options at the back by bringing in Cardiff City defender Adedeji Oshilaja on loan.

He said: “There could possibly be more and we will look as we are always trying to improve.

“We look to make sure it is the right personality that fits into the group for the right price.

"We are always looking and we are always looking to improve our squad, otherwise if you stand still, you go backwards.

“If we can get Lofty and Cody back, then we have a competitive 19-man squad of outfield players who are competing for places.”

Oshilaja is a player Edinburgh knows well, having had the defender on loan while manager of Newport County.

The 22-year-old made his debut in Saturday’s friendly at Dover and Edinburgh is glad to have him at the club.

“I thought his performance was good,” said the Gills boss.

“He didn’t train with us on Friday as he only got down and signed in the afternoon. He hasn’t trained with us and fair play to him, I thought he acquitted himself well.

“He looked sharp and competitive and we hope for more to come from him once he starts to get to know the boys and settles in.

“He’s a good athlete. He’s got good pace, a good spring and will give us good competition to John (Egan) and Max (Ehmer). That is what we needed."
